Reflection on Tech 6

I remember in elementary school, playing computer games like Clue Finders. These were educational games that were grade based. More and more education games are becoming popular. But is there a place for these computer games in the classroom, or should student play these games on their own? For me I believe that teachers should not let these game be the sole source on the topics in the game, but if there is free time in the class time, that playing these games would be good. Students should be encouraged to play these games outside of school as well to reinforce skills and ideas.

Week 8

The reading site I found was http://www.the-elite.net/---/story/ This is a fun site where students can put the name of two characters, a nemesis, and a mode of transportation, a story will generate. The children than read the story about their characters. This is encouraging for students because they are then reading about characters that they care about or like. The generator uses big words at times, which will help student improve their vocabulary.

Reflection on Tech 5

In my Geography class the projector was not working. The professor was completely dependent on the projector for the class, and the class period was delayed at 20 minutes into the class. As teachers we should not be dependent like this on technology that we cannot teach without it. I know that I will learn from this and I will not be this dependent on technology and be able to teach with out the tech as well as with the tech.

Week 7

From looking at the teachers blogs I can see that they try to reach the students as much as possible in all subject areas. In the subject of math, for Mrs. Adair's class she puts the learning targets for the week up for all subjects. This is a way that students can either get ahead or catch up if they either missed a day or did not full understand what was happening. Also Mrs. Adiar was able to give suggestions of how to help the students retain and improve upon their learning skills over the summer. One such example was a math camp. This camp gave students a chance to build up or build upon their math skills to get a running start at the new school year.

Reflection on Tech 4

Technology today is getting more and more advance every day. Just this week me and a friend were able to go see Wil Wheaton, an actor we both like,  read a book in Seattle. We were able to find out that he was coming through Twitter a day before he came to Seattle. So how can we use this kind of technology for education. We do not need to develop anything, we just need to find a use for the technology that is in front of us. What other technology do teachers have in front of them that they are not using, and how can they began to use this technology?

Reflection on Tech 3

I remember in my senior high school language arts class the teacher mainly taught with movies. Mostly movies that did not apply to the class. I do not remember learning anything in that class, except of what I do not want to do as a teacher. I believe that is an example of how using tech in a classroom has gotten out of control. As teachers we should be using tech, but not so much that we do not actually teach.

Reflection on Tech 2

With the increase of technology in classes I can see that having a SMART Table in a science classroom could be very helpful. For example when students are supposed to dissect a frog or other animal, they can practice on the SMART Table before hand so the students do not make a fatal mistake with the real project. We all know that some children will just want to cut up the animal and the practice on the SMART Table will give the child a chance to do this without ruining an actual animal.

Reflection on Tech 1

With so many creative people on the internet that are posting to places like youtube, we should use these resources. Many of these videos are simple, in terms that students can understand and funny. Also lets face it, students will always be more engaged for a movie than a teacher, there is just something about it not being the teacher that makes them want to pay attention. So why not use this so called disadvanage to our advantage?

Week 6

I liked the suggestions that were given to get technology into the classroom. I believe that there are a lot of resources that are being wasted because people are too afraid of the worst possible side affects. I do understand that as teachers we must instill safety on the internet into the children. But there are some children who are not told not to talk to strangers on the internet by there parents. By intertwining  technology students learn how to be safe on the internet. All in all I like tech and I am a supporter to using every means possible to reach students, such as facebook, google +, youtube and other major areas that students visit.
